Statement of Purpose (SOP)
Development Guide - ONSHORE

Instructions: Use this as a GUIDE in writing your SOP for Australian admissions for applicants who are cu
ently in Australia
(onshore). Your SOP must be written in a separate paper and use the guidelines below to assist you in presenting your
unique story in an honest, plausible and accurate manner. Limit your SOP up to two pages only.

1. Start writing your SOP by introducing yourself with your full name, date of birth, nationality and where you are
cu
ently living. Include the course and name of institution that you intend to study. Also Identify who will
sponso
finance your studies in Australia.
2. Provide
ief details of your education history – from Year 10 and 12 equivalent qualifications to your highest
qualification, including your Australian study (if applicable)
3. Give a detailed summary of your activities (education/ employment) in Australia from your a
ival up to the present
4. Describe the specific research you conducted which led you to choose your prefe
ed course at Charles Darwin
University. Include the name and duration of the course and the CDU location where you intend to study. You should
also be able to identify the career opportunities or professional recognition aligned with the course that you are
intending to study. This can be found in the course information in the prospectus and at the CDU website:
http:
www.cdu.edu.au/international/future-students/courses

6. State how your selected course is linked to your previous study and/or work experience. If there is no link, explain why
you are seeking a change of discipline and therefore a career change.
7. Provide details of any other relevant or critical information that the visa assessing officers would expect you to disclose
– e.g. details of previous visa refusal/s, unusual sponsorship or financial conditions, reasons for frequent overseas
travel, etc. If possible, attach any documentary evidence to your SOP.
8. Your SOP must end with the following statement:

I declare that the particulars given above are true and co
ect in every detail. I understand that inco
ect or
misleading statements may result in refusal of my admission and/or student visa application.
