Future of Telecom Optical Networks (2011)
OADM stands for optical add-drop multiplexer and is one of the most important devices in
optical systems and are used for wavelength division multiplexing. Although this proved to
e insufficient for the present and future demand of the optical network therefore
Reconfigurable OADM has come into existence but it is not fully reconfigurable and has
problems of blocking and contention. Other devices such as tunable laser have developed a
lot and tried to meet the requirement of the cu
ent trend but are limited to the controlled
wavelength operation. Also this has not been proved fully reconfigurable and this is not able
to move any wavelength to any direction which is the need of future optical networks..
In telecommunication, a Photonic router is a switch that enables signals in optical fibers to
e selectively switched from one circuit to another. Therefore we really need a fully
econfigurable device such as photonic router which can do all the power measurements, pre
emphasis, wavelength selective switching. This device is also known as photonic router and
can do many functions...
