In my view, probably the most difficult ethical issue in advertising is the determination of how much and what kind of information is required for the customer to understand the critical characteristics of the product or service being advertised. To solicit purchase money from a (potential) consumer who lacks understanding of risks, constraints, or weaknesses of the product or service being offered, while it may in many cases be legal, to me it’s at best a grey area in ethics.
