The world is already faced with the challenge of energy conservation, and depletion of non-
renewable sources of energy has shifted the paradigm of worries into a new dimension. 
Identifying viable alternative energy sources is both a challenge and an approach which has, 
till date, been proved to be expensive and risky. Adding to all such worries, the excessive 
need of power consumption related to engineering projects has put the environmentalist 
groups and professional engineering communities across the globe in utter dilemma. But it 
must be noted that the dilemmas are unevenly spread across the globe due to the disparities 
that exist in the conservation practices followed by the developed and developing nations. 
Moreover, it is noteworthy that, there are challenges to engineering, but such challenges are 
different for the engineering communities of the developed and developing nations. 
Conservation of energy is a global problem which is worrisome for the global engineering 
community, but in respect of infrastructure development, there are disparities in the nature of 
challenges faced by the engineers in the developed nations and engineers in the developing 
nations.
