Introduction:
British Columbia is the province in Canada which is blessed with abundance of hydropower availability and infrastructure. In fact, so much so that close to 91% of electricity is produced from hydropower in this province. One of the largest producers being BC Hydro and caters to around 95% of the population in the BC province. As far as the infrastructure is concerned the province has binary power plants and is generated in closed loop so that there is no release of emissions. In this province, primarily, most systems are “public utilities” and regulated by the BC Utilities Commission unless the services are provided by the local government. Various other smaller players also operate and produce electricity through hydroelectric plant and other facilities like solar, biomass and wind. The company that is used as a reference for this case study discussion is BC Hydro.
