Lab XXXXXXXXXXpoints
Week 1
Learning Outcomes
After completing this Lab-1 you will be able to explain o
and perform the following activities:
a- Know how to use a simulator to simulate the behavior an electronics circuit
- Discuss the doping process in the semiconducto
c- Determine the behavior of a diode in a circuit both in forward and reverse biases
d- Observe how a resistor limits the cu
ent throw a diode
Reading: Electronic Devices, Floyd, 10th Edition, Chapter 1, Chapter XXXXXXXXXX, 2-3
XXXXXXXXXXAlso Lab2 further readings slides
Lab report format: Same as this document, report your results after each experiment, both word or PDF are acceptable
Required hardware and software
1- a computer with installed NI myDAQ
2- NI myDAQ instrument including its accessories
3- One 1 kΩ 5%, 1/4 watt resistor
4- One 1n4001 diode
5- 9- V battery with terminal leads or use 10 V power supply out of the instrument
Note: Always make sure your circuit is co
ectly implemented then connect voltage supplies.
Task 1: (Practicing lab set up) 10 points
a- Make an account on the National instruments webside (http:
www.ni.com/myni/dashboard/)
- Install NI myDaq and go through the following link and get familiar with it
https:
learn.ni.com/teach
esources/99
c- Make yourself familiar with Mutisim (usually it is part of above installation). If not please ask lab manger for help
Task 2 (Practicing research on the lab topics and gathering supporting materials) 10 points
Go through chapter 1 of your course book or watch videos on the site (or search internet directly) and in one paragraph explain in your words what doping process is at least 75 words but not more than 200 words).
Task 3 (Practicing research on the lab topics and gathering supporting materials) 10 points
Go through chapter 2, XXXXXXXXXXof your course book or watch videos on the site (or search internet directly) and in two paragraph explain in your own words what diode is and how it works (at least 150 words but not more than 300 words).
Task 4
Experiment 1 (Experimenting cu
ent limiting and setting the voltage for a device) 40 points
1-1- Implement the following circuit on myProtoBoard and perform the following:
a- Measure the voltage across R and record it (please mention in your report that you use a 9 V battery or 10 V instrument power supply)
- Measure the voltage across the diode and record it.
c- Calculate the voltage across R using the circuit analysis and a practical diode and compare it with a result
d- Explain the results and say why the you get a & b results
e- Using Multisim and simulate the circuit and compare them with a-c
Experiment 2: (Experimenting with a diode under reverse bias) 40 points
Implement the following circuit on myProtoBoard and perform the following:
a- Measure the voltage across R and record it
- Measure the voltage across the diode and record it.
c- Calculate the voltage across R using the circuit analysis and a practical diode and compare it with a result
d- Explain the results and say why the you get a & b results
e- Using Multisim and simulate the circuit and compare them with a-c
