Intro to the Deaf Community: Article Summary & Review Requirements
You will be asked to write a summary and review of four different articles throughout this semester. These articles need to relate in some way to the deaf community. The articles could be about members of the deaf community, technology, education, medical procedures, communication, or anything else which relates to the community. The article needs to be long enough to write a summary and review about. If it is only a couple of paragraphs long, it is probably too short.
You will be asked to write a summary of the articles you read. In addition to this summary, you need to write at least a one paragraph review analyzing what you read and giving your opinions. Do you agree with the medical procedure you read about? Do you agree with the educational philosophy you read about? Why or why not? What is innovative about this new technology? A paragraph consists of three or more sentences, so make certain to be thorough.
The summaries
eviews you write should be at least one full page or more. Your paper should not be half a page, ¾ of a page, or anything less than a full page. If you choose to use a heading, then your paper should be over a full page. Your papers should be typed, 12 point Times New Roman font double spaced with one inch margins. There are no requirements on how long the articles should be that you read but they should be long enough that your summary can meet the required parameters.
Lastly, in addition to turning in your summary, I will require you to turn in the article you read so that I can also read it. You can send an internet link, scan it in and send it as a .pdf or you can copy and paste it into a Word .doc or .docx document. Be aware that if you use a li
ary database, I will not be able to access the link you will see because it is through your li
ary account and so you need to attach the original article for me. I will not make you use APA or MLA documentation but I will need to know:
· The article title
· The page number(s)
· The title of the source (website, journal, magazine, newspaper, book, etc.)
· The date published
Make certain you retrieve articles from credible sources. Wikipedia is not a credible source, so please find other source. If you question whether or not your article is from a credible source, you can ask me but please ask me enough time before the due date for me to respond to your question. Also, you may not want to wait until the last minute to turn in these assignments because as always, if technology can go wrong, it will. If you send me your article summaries
eviews and copies close to the deadline but I cannot open them, they will be considered late.
These articles and summaries
eviews should be emailed to me through the D2L classroom email system and sent as attachments. *YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE A ZERO ON THE ASSIGNMENT IF I DO NOT RECEIVE A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL ARTICLE.* If you fear that I may not be able to open the documents, you can also cut and paste your summary and article directly into an email. For your convenience, these instructions were typed in the same format I expect you to use. Email me if you have questions and please check the calendar for article due dates!
Certainly you can check the mainstream news outlets for news related to the Deaf community but here are some websites where you can look for articles! One last piece of information…you may use “video articles.” Make sure that the topics chosen even in video articles are related to the Deaf community and not mainstream media. Also, the content must still be long enough to be sufficient to write your summary
eview.

In this article the author himself is a deaf person and he si proud in being a deaf. Recent times have seen a lot of change in culture and social beliefs. The author however states that he is happy being a deaf but also he sees people discriminating against people who are deaf. Yes, it is evident that deaf people require a little extra care and effort but that doesn’t make them different from Humans or the society they live in. It is not their fault that they were born deaf, met with an accident or due to some illness they lost the power to hear. It is natural and is a part of society. Though they may not be able to hear but they are equally humans with equal capacities to do great in the...
