You must appropriately reference ALL material which is not your own as otherwise, you may be
eported for academic misconduct due to plagiarism. This includes academic references, quality
primary sources e.g. Government websites and online articles. The following li
ary links provide
examples and guidance regarding how to do this in the Harvard UniSA Style guide and Roadmap to
eferencing. These links also provide a link to Endnote which is a useful software for storing your

use Endnote for your written assignment but it is available as a useful resource if you wish to use it for
your referencing.

ed
to an Academic Integrity Officer who have the authority to fail your assignment refer you higher. For
further information, please access this link to the Turnitin Resource.
MARKING CRITERIA
Students are required to focus on the principle of having a critical approach and producing a sound
piece of academic writing, instead of focusing on what “answers” to include. In this assignment, the
assessing tutors have a greater interest in the writing process and style, than the content itself. This is
eflected by the weighting in the marking scheme (please see ru
ic below).
This task has multiple steps. An initial submission (first submission) worth 5% of the overall course
grade and the final submission, which is worth 20% of the overall course grade.
First Submission (5% of overall grade)
The purpose of the first submission is to ensure that students are engaging with the task and that they

SHOULD RAPID ANTIGEN TESTS BE FREE TO ALL AUSTRALIANS?

Introduction
Amid public criticism in recent months, Australia's central government recently declared that concession cardholders would soon be able to have up to 10 free rapid antigen tests over the course of three months. Everybody else, on the other hand, will have to pay for their own rapid antigen testing, which can cost up to ten Australian dollars each. Rapid antigen testing is available for free in nations such as Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Now the question is, should rapid antigen tests be free to all Australians?
Body
The World Health Organization (WHO) proclaimed the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, officially termed as COVID-19, a worldwide catastrophe in 2020, and it began to expand over the world with different more transmissible strains. About 289 million known cases have been documented worldwide as of today, with over 5.4 million fatalities. The epidemic has also had a significant impact on Australia's economy, with a cost of $311 billion predicted in the government budget for 2021-22.
Primary care and big community-based testing centres have been used in Australia's reaction to introduce free-to-the-user Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests for COVID-19 (Tollånes et al., 2020). Healthcare staff take a specimen from the nasal cavity and throat to perform PCR testing. The sample is then submitted to a pathology facility for testing, and people receive their findings by text message in about 24 hours, but it might take days. The PCR testing method is believed to have cost the Australian government $3.7 billion to date. The appearance of the highly infectious Omicron variant in Australia, which coincided with a comfort of public health constraints and the social "holiday period" of Christmas / New Year's Eve, has resulted in a surge in COVID-19 cases in Australia, causing the PCR testing system to become overwhelmed. Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) are a COVID-19 substitute test that might be used in conjunction with the PCR testing technique.
The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) legalized the use of RATs in November 2021, allowing people to self-swab at home and get findings in 15-20 minutes (Olearo et al., 2021). Although PCR testing retains the gold standard in terms of effectiveness, a Cochrane evaluation of RATs found a 72 percent true positive rate (sensitivity) for symptomatic COVID-19...
