Substation (Power House)
A substation is a part of an electrical generation, transmission,
and distribution system. Substations transform voltage from high to low, or
the reverse, or perform any of several other important functions. Between
the generating station and consumer, electric power may flow through
several substations at different voltage levels.
Substations generally have switching, protection and control
equipment, and transformers. In a large substation, circuit
eakers are
used to inte
upt any short circuits or overload cu
ents that may occur on
the network. Smaller distribution stations may use reclose circuit
eakers or fuses for protection of distribution circuits. Substations
themselves do not usually have generators, although a power plant may
have a substation nea
y. Other devices such as capacitors and voltage
egulators may also be located at a substation.

H.T. Meter Cubicle
The metering cubicle is installed electrically in between the incoming supply
point and step down transformer of power house. It consists of 3 CT’s and 3 PT’s one
for each phase. Nine independent G.I. earthing bolts are provided on sides so that
inside and outside earthing can be provided. It consists of master unit with LCD display
and a socket to connect remote, when powered it should show cu
ent date and time.
This LCD display also shows CT and PT readings.

High-Voltage Protective Equipment:

The first device encountered in a substation is typically a disconnect switch.
The most commonly used switch in small to medium substations is a gang-operated,
air-
eak disconnect switch. The purpose of this switch is to disconnect the substation from
incoming line. A substation must first be disconnected from its secondary or load side before
the primary or high voltage side can be disconnected using the disconnect switch.
The next device encountered in a substation is the high voltage power
fuses. These fuses stop the flow of cu
ent in the event of an...
