Dielctrics do not contain free charges for conduction. Hence, dielectrics are technically
insulators as they do not conduct electricity. Dielectics contain +ve and -ve charges which are
ound together. These charges could be affected by electric field. The main function of a
dielectric is storing electric charge.
Dielectrcs are mainly of two types, namely polar and non-polar.
An atom contains a +ve charge (in the nucleus) and electrons(-ve charge) revolving around the
