For any organization to become successful, it is important for it to adapt to the changes in situations that it may face. The inability of an organization is bound to make it fail in the market due to the high adaptability of other organizations which shall beat it in competition as well as the various ever-changing factors that govern the market.
If organizations are to excel they need to be adaptive, flexible and productive. This can be accomplished by building upon employee's capabilities and commitments throughout the organization. In order to facilitate this building up Senge & Scharmer (2008), identified five principles of learning. These are-
1. Systems Thinking
2. Personal Mastery
3. Mental models
4. Shared vision
5. Team Learning
Shared Vision
Shared Vision is the essence of learning. It means to have an ideal goal by not just one individual, but by all members of an organization. When a people are truly inspired by a vision they will take the necessary and ideal steps towards learning.
All organizations have a vision. However, usually, this is just a corporate vision that is held by one person. The rest of the organizations gets imposed by this vision and follows it blindly. There is no enthusiasm or drive to follow that vision or adapt learning in the process towards it.
Here it is important to differentiate between compliance and commitment. Compliance refers to adjusting the vision of the company to one's own vision. Commitment, on the other hand, refers to the sharing of a company's vision and idealizing it and struggling to accomplish it on one's own incentive.
