Apart from written presentation of the solution, oral discussion of solutions may be required. This is a group assignment, nevertheless each individual is expected to display knowledge of the full content of the solution provided. PART A For the purpose of construction of residential foundations, describe the soil classification (i.e., A, S, M, H, E, P) according to AS2870. For the purpose of the construction of residential foundations in Melbourne and suburbs, please depict on a map the expected site classification. Explain legal problems that can arise due to inappropriate foundation design and construction. You are also required to provide 2 examples of cases which occurred in Australia or overseas. PART B Provide sketches detailing dimensions for standard strip and stiffened raft foundations prescribed by AS2870 for masonry veneer one-storey dwellings. The dwellings are to be constructed at sites in Melbourne classified as class M. The dimensions of the dwellings in plan are 15 x 28 m. Reinforcement details as prescribed by AS2870 should also be provided. State construction requirements for the above foundations, which are necessary to ensure compliance with AS2870.
