advanced level in the areas of financial accounting, managerial
accounting, auditing, taxation, and accounting information systems
 Students will be able to engage in critical thinking
 Students will demonstrate effective oral and written communication
skills
 Students will achieve CPA exam pass rates higher than those

ASSIGNMENTS
Reading Assignments
Students are expected to read the assigned chapters. Auditing is a
qualitative, more than quantitative course. It will be difficult to do well on
the quizzes, exams and project by hunting through the textbook in search
of a topic area, you will not have time to finish the exams. Auditing is a
conceptual topic which requires integrating concepts and applying them in
a real world setting. There are many examples provided in the reading that,
once understood, can be applied to other scenarios.
Connect Homework
Homework is available in Connect, McGraw-Hill. This can be accessed
through Blackboard or directly through the Connect website. Homework
has unlimited attempts, and only your “best” score counts. So, for example,
if you get a 60%, 80%, 100%, 20%, 5% in that order, only the 100% will
count.
Connect Learnsmart
Learnsmart is a feature in Connect that assists students with reading and
understanding the textbook. There is a tutorial on how to use
Learnsmart/Smartbook. Points for completing these assignments are
included in your Connect grade and can be viewed in Blackboard.

EXAMS
Exams will require applying the concepts and terminology presented in the
text and the classroom. The material for exams will be based on the
textbook chapters and related assignments. The midterm and final exam
will time out after the allotted minutes, so plan accordingly when you start
the exam. It is assumed that students will use resources such as the book
and notes. However, getting help from another person during the exam is
prohibited. You will not be able to stop and restart the test. Additional time

for a timed-out exam will only be granted if the CSU ELearning center can confirm that the problem was a
CSU system failure.
Rather than having two exams for 150 points each (300 points total), this class has two exams for 100 points
each, and the highest score counts twice (300 points total).
Makeup exams must be well documented and a
anged in advance. The date for the make-up exam must be
set for a date after the scheduled exam, and it may be a different format and content than the scheduled exam.
Sometimes the class exam is curved, but a makeup exam grade is not curved because there is no way to curve
an exam for one person.
STUDENT CONDUCT
Accountants, especially auditors, are valued for integrity. You are bound by a code of ethics as a student, and
a future business professional.
The Cleveland State University Student Conduct Code can be found online at web address
http:
www.csuohio.edu/studentlife/StudentCodeOfConduct.pdf.
Students are expected to do their own work. Academic misconduct, student misconduct, cheating and
plagiarism will not be tolerated. Violations will be subject to disciplinary action as specified in the CSU
Student Conduct Code. Plagiarism is defined as, “Stealing and/or using the ideas or writings of another in a
paper or report and claiming them as your own. This includes but is not limited to the use, by paraphrase or
direct quotation, of the work of another person without full and clear acknowledgment.” Homework copied
in whole or in part from another student or a solution manual is plagiarism and, in addition to
consequences according to the student conduct code will also include a non-negotiable 10 point reduction
of discussion points. While students are permitted to discuss assignments they are working on, each student
is responsible for preparing completely his or her own assignment. The instructor may deduct up to 20 points
for inappropriate conduct in Blackboard Discussions.
