Introduction
The ERP systems are Enterprise Report Planning systems. Various processes are essential to businesses. There are also various departments in a business enterprise of a medium size and sometimes even a small size company. These include processes such as inventory control, accounting, human resources, and customer relationship management. ERP, at a simplistic level, is software that integrates all the processes. The integration streamlines all the functions of the different departments across the various departments. Thus, the information is shared among the departments of the organisation. This effectively means that the integration of information through the same ERP software and the different departments rely on one common source or a centralised information network.
Examination of Cases
The leading ERP vendors include Open Source software. The other leading players are SAP and Oracle. The smaller players have utilised a free distribution system for their source code. Some developed components for various purposes to support their software, which is proprietarily. That means they have intellectual property rights such as SAP, Oracle and many others vendors. The need for ERP systems came about because of a need for synchronisation and automation. The employees had to maintain separate spreadsheets and these spreadsheets had to be merged manually. On adoption of the ERP the same thing does not have to be done manually, instead they can be merged automatically. For example, the orders can be processed from the marketing department to the production department faster (Olson, Johansson & Carvalho, 2018).
The concept of ERP applied to inventory management in the initial stage. The inventory management stage had evolved to material requirement planning. Then it expanded into functions such as accounting and human resources. It now encompasses sales force automation and other functions. The result is that all companies use some form of ERP. The Cloud Computing system makes it more affordable to smaller companies.
The benefits of the system are huge because it makes the employees have access to real time accurate information. It covers the entire gamut of operations such as supply chain, procurement, inventory management, supplier management, payments to vendors, accounting, payroll, sales force management, customer management and such other enterprise management solutions.
Improve Customer Experiences
The ERP systems have been used in customer relationship management. It helps to maintain the foundations that help organisations attract and retain customers. It enhances customer loyalty with good communication, sustainability and persuades customers buying experience. Once the system is set up, it manages the workflow more easily. Since the tastes of the customers are constantly changing, the enhancement of customer relationship management can take place.
The drawbacks and challenges of implementation of the processes are the investment required in training the staff, among other things. The implementation of the ERP can be divided into two phases. First is the planning stage or the pre-implementation stage. The next is the actual implementation. Since customers are the main success of any organisation, a lot of study has been done on the effectiveness and evaluation of the uses of ERP to improve customer experience (Aljawarneh & Al-Omari, 2018).
The focus is on improving customer relations; the study concludes that the implementation must take care of the hiring of sales representatives. The ability to transform the organisation using the technological advantage offered by ERP depended many of the sales advisors, teams and other CRM staff because the linking of the sources and the utilisation of the vast amounts of information can be advantages only if the staff are trained (Aljawarneh & Al-Omari, 2018).
Enhance Employee Engagement
The employee engagement is the one important usage of the ERP system in the human resource department. The human resources require integration of systems regarding payroll, hiring, and recruitment. The computerised environment provides a database of individuals and the compatible database integrates the functions of the staff in all the departments of the company. The collaboration of technology thus helps the human resources planning and allocation of staff. The staff or labour allocation can be achieved effectively both on a long term and short term basis. The findings evaluating the employees showed the implementation success to enhance employee engagement because of the improved trust between employees of several functions. The effective communication between employees because of an exchange of shared information transparently leads to organisational goals being realised. Social factors and end user involvement enhanced performance...
