Reflection on Personal Development of Effective Communication Skills
After going through the learning modules, it is easily understandable that communication means sharing of thoughts, feelings, attitude and ideas through the exchange of verbal or non-verbal symbols or gestures. However, it is quite clear to me that communication may not be always effective as it may hampered by barriers, misunderstandings or conflicts. As far as my personal perception of effective communication is to be considered, I think it is the process of exchanging ideas, knowledge, information and thoughts in a manner so that the intended purpose of communication is being fulfilled in the best possible manner and the message being communicated is easily understood by the receiver (Thompson, 2018). Through the learning module, it is evident to me that communication must be used in the best possible way to make positive changes. As far as I can make out from the content in the module effective communication in health and social care is important for service users, colleagues and partners and requires a structured and knowledge-based approach. From my view point effective communication is necessary in health and social care to avoid malpractices. 
In order to develop my communication skills with greater efficiency and effectiveness, I feel that I must focus on being an active and patient listener and must check on my body language and messages before I send it to the recipients. I also believe that being brief yet specific will help me to develop effective communication skills. Through the learning module, I have learned about different communication models, which can help me to communicate effectively such as the Shannon and Weaver’s process model, which defined communication through six stages. Another model discussed in the module is transactional model. After gaining insights into this particular model, I can make out that communication is a two-way process, in which meaning and mutual understanding is important (Ratzan,
