Introduction
Personally controlled electronic health record (PCEHR) is a system that is being implemented
in the health care sector by the government of Australia. It is considered to be an integral part
of the agenda which aims to develop a health care system which would be continuously
improved to meet the requirements of the 21st century (Alberts et al, 2009).
It is a system that is majorly accountable, sustainable and can easily be afforded as it will be
integrated with quality as well as the safety at its centre. The aim of this paper is to present an
overview of the PCEHR in relation to its plan of implementation, the SWOT analysis and the
ecommendations required to enhance the plan of implementation (Al-Nayadi et al, 2007).
PCEHR: Overview and Implementation Plan
The national system of PCEHR has the objective of placing individuals at the heart of their
centers of health. This enables the individuals to have an access enabled with regard to
information of health whenever and wherever it is required by them or their health care
providers. PCEHR enables individuals to make a choice whither they want to participate in
the controlled access system or follow the government in a restricted way. With the mission
of an individual key facts about information on health can be viewed by the providers of
health care that are participating in this model (Alberts et al, 2009).
This participation will take place in different locations and different settings of health care.
