Details:It is important to identify and understand your own family culture in order to be able to understand and respect other cultures. Interview a family member, and an individual from another culture with which you are unfamiliar. Some examples of an individual from another culture to consider for the assignment include a neighbor, coworker, patient, or friend. Please inform the individuals of the purpose of this assignment and make sure you receive their consent. Interviews: Review the "Family Interview" template prior to the interview. Additional space is designated on the template for you to create three additional questions to ask both interviewees (family member and person from another culture). Additional questions should be relevant to the readings or discussion and should provide value to the interview by helping to understand culture. Preface: 
The discussion present in the current context is about understanding family cultures. The purpose of the 
interview is to understand own culture and to compare the same with some other culture. In the current 
context our own culture is compared with that of a co-worker. The co-worker selected is from Asia . 
There are two reasons to select an Asian for interview. The first reason is the fact that most of the 
immigrants in United States are from Asia and neighboring countries. Hence knowing the sentiments, 
culture and interests of the people of Asia is very much important. Secondly personally I do have lot of 
curiosity and interest to know the family culture and personal values and beliefs of Indians. Since I heard 
India is rich in culture and the customs and practices being employed in the country are quite old, more 
than 5000 years old. Hence I selected an Indian co-worker for this analysis. 
Family interview of own Family member: 
Interview is conducted with own mother and her responses are recorded in the form of the template. 
She filled the template with her own handwriting and the findings are submitted here.  
1. What are your family roles/gender roles? How are they the same as or different from 
those traditionally practiced by your culture (who is the head of the household, who 
makes decisions, how are decisions made, etc.)? 
Traditionally in our family male are used to be the bread earners and the women used to be in 
the houses taking care of the families. However my mother and myself both are nurses. My 
mother worked as nurse in red cross and worked for the welfare of the war victims and 
myself also chosen the same profession and working as nurse and about to retire shortly. My 
mother was a widow and she brought up myself and my siblings. Now I am married to your 
father and taking care of both the family and the profession. I don’t find there is much 
difference in the family/gender roles. Basically the family system is same and the hierarchy 
is same in general. 
2. What does your culture and family see as primary family goals (education, marriage, 
etc.)? 
Our basic family goals are providing a good life to the children. Which include good 
education, career guidance, support for stand-up etc.
