There are a lot of commonalities between manufacturing operations and service operations. Though both these are clearly divergent there are certain very important indicators which brings out efficiencies in both the sectors.
 a. Compare and contrast operation manufacturing and operation of services with regard to customer involvement. 
Operation manufacturing is also customer oriented though the customer is not reached directly Since goods have to be manufactured as per requirements customer involvement is not immediate. In contrast, service operations deal directly with customers as the service is rendered to the customer directly and hence customer involvement in the real sense is direct .
