Then, whilst the first bin was on fire, the accused has used a cigarette lighter to ignite paper bags and placed this into a second green wheelie bin, which has also caught fire.Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) were contacted and attended the scene in order to extinguish the fire. Both fires burnt and destroyed the ruish bins and scorched the pavement beneath the bins. Once on the grounds, the accused has moved a large waste ‘skip’ bin located near a storage unit and relocated it next to the school’s main administration office. He has then used paper materials inside the bin as an ignition device by setting them on fire using a cigarette lighter. Once on fire, the accused left the scene.Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) were contacted and attended the scene in order to extinguish the fire. Analysis revealed the true weight to be 10.2 grams of Cannabis. Centre management alerted Police and after making an admission of guilt, he was required to pay the cleaning costs of $375.00 and donate 20 hours of voluntary service to the shopping centre. Jayden’s mother, Karen, made the payment and Jayden completed the volunteer work. The matter was resolved and the infringement adhered to. The cuent matter represents a second offence and is due to be heard by Magistrate Hoigan on 24/10/23.Legal RepresentationJayden is cuently represented by Legal Aid WA.Family DetailsJayden was born on 25/11/2007 and was initially raised by both of his parents, Karen Roberts and Daen Day. Jayden also has a other, Michael, who is 3 years older than Jayden. Records indicate a normal childbirth with all developmental milestones achieved at an appropriate age. Karen and Daen were both born and raised in New South Wales. 12 months prior to getting maied, the couple relocated to Perth to start their own family away. Both are estranged from their relatives due to experiences of childhood abuse and ongoing conflict. Consequently, Jayden and Michael have no relationship with their grandparents. The only extended family they have contact with is their maternal Aunt who cuently resides in Queensland and visits Perth during the Easter School Holiday period every year.Jayden’s parents separated in early 2019 after 15 years of maiage. Jayden’s father is reported to have been a heavy drinker and would become veally aggressive towards all family members when intoxicated. As a result, arguments were frequent between Jayden’s parents. His mother had intermittent part-time work as a bookkeeper and his father has worked in the mining industry for the past 10 years, which has included FIFO work. During his father’s absences while working away, Jayden’s mother was often angry and lonely. She was diagnosed with depression and anxiety 3 years ago, however until this point she was receiving no psychological or medical support. During severe periods of depression, Jayden’s mother would sleep throughout the day and experienced difficulty keeping up with the daily routine needed by her children. She often did not monitor her children’s whereabouts at these times. When Jayden’s father was on his home rotation, there were often loud parties and baecues throughout the week so his father could ‘catch-up’ with his friends. It was usually after these gatherings that his parents would get into arguments, with both exhibiting aggressive behaviour.Jayden frequently missed school when his father was home, as often his parents would sleep in. Upon separation, Jayden and Michael lived with their mother in their cuent residence, which is partly funded by their father. Jayden’s mother experienced some difficulty with the lifestyle adjustment and at this time, her use of alcohol increased. It has only been in the last 12-months that Jayden’s mother has reduced her alcohol use and managed to create a routine for herself and her sons. However, when her depression worsens she still experiences some periods where she relapses into disorganisation and a lack of motivation. Jayden has not had contact with his father since he left the family home and separated from his wife. Although he continues to work in mining, he no longer commutes to Perth. Instead, he now lives in Kaatha and works a drive-in/drive-out roster. Jayden’s father has also re-partnered since separating from Jayden’s mother. Jayden’s father lives with his girlfriend of 18 months, Tei. In Year 3 he was moved to Butler Primary School as a result of his parents moving to Butler. His school reports indicated that he had trouble keeping up with the workload. It was commented by most teachers that Jayden possessed the ability to do well, but was distracted easily and prefeed socialising during class time. He appeared to perform well at sports, but did not use these skills outside of school time. In Year 6, Jayden commenced at Clarkson Community College, where he continues to attend. He has received numerous detention penalties for vandalising school property, including etching marks into the desks with a compass, writing in class books and puncturing sports equipment. It is further noted that Jayden had a tendency to become easily frustrated and hostile. However, this has not been expressed as school fights, but he has engaged in some veal bullying behaviour. Jayden has exhibited a pattern of truanting behaviour in both primary and high school. Although his mother, Karen, has attended some parent-teacher meetings regarding this issue, little has changed.
