Part (1) Executive summary: 300-word limitThe executive summary should be a concise overview containing all the key points about the technology in the minimum number of words. It should be a “stand-alone” part of the document, i.e. it does not require the reader to have read any other part of the report (nor anything else). It should not contain any references. Note that you are not being asked to “sell” this technology: you are being asked to give an objective view of it. If you think the technology has no particular use state this clearly (although it’s usually more likely that you would state where it could, should and should not be used). Summarise your key conclusions here (there is no conclusions section in this report), and make a clear recommendation about the technology.
Part(2) Page 2, 3: “Technology description”Describe what the technology is and how it works. Explain in general terms how it can be used to intensify processes. This may necessitate a diagram. Diagrams should preferably be your own. If you cut and paste from the web, or any other source, you must give a reference in the caption of the figure, but note that no marks will be directly given for simply cutting and pasting diagrams.
Part(3) Pages 4, 5: ApplicationsDiscuss where the technology could, should and should not be used, and give the evidence for this, giving references wherever possible. Contrast the technology with existing/ conventional technologies to explain the technology’s advantages (and disadvantages) in its particular niche. Clearly explain how this is an improvement over existing technology: a new technology must be able to outperform existing technology, not simply match it. It may make sense to present some of your findings in comparison tables, if there is a lot to cover, but there should still be accompanying text to make the conclusions clear.
Part(4) Page 6: “References”This is unlikely to fill the entire page. This is a literature-based assignment, so the points in your report should be backed up by references wherever possible. The references should contain the names of all authors, and the full title of the work. The referencing system should be self-consistent. References should be used to back up specific points. You should use the Harvard referencing system.

Introduction
The falling film reactors are used in maintaining a low temperature and hence lead to reaction conditions which are milder than the batch reactors. These film reactors are columns or groups of columns in which the fluid flows, this fluid can either be a gas or a liquid, the film reactors are known for their excellent heat removal capability. It is because of this reason, that substituting batch processes by continuous processes in the film reactors have become a trend so as to improve the safety conditions and also to increase the reaction progress. Hence, the falling film reactors have wide usage in the chemical industry. They are used in detergents as well as in dispersing agents manufacturing plants. The best examples of reactions occuring in these industries are sulphonation of dodecylbenzene(DDB) or linear-alkyl-benzene(LAB) by sulphur trioxide(SO3). The original purpose for which the falling film reactor was initially developed was to perform tests on the production of 1,4-Butane disocynate(BDI). These tests were to be performed using short path distillation. The BDI has a purpose in tissue engineering as BDI is used in the synthesis of polyurethanes and these polyurethanes are used in making porous 3D scaffolds, these 3D porous scaffoldsare applied in tissue engineering.To increase the production of BDI one out the many ways is to separate BDI from the mixture. But it was found during the lab experiments that separation was not possible during lab experiments.This resulted in a distillate which consisted of BDI,caprolactum and blocked diisocyanate, this distillate was created due to reverse reaction.At room temperature the reverse reaction was slow and it was required to cool the distillate so as to prevent the reverse reaction. In large scale productions, a technique which is suitable for cooling the distillate quickly is by using a falling film reactor so as to perform short-path distillation.Hence, a deeper understanding of this falling film reactor is required. This aims to provide the first steps in understanding of this apparatus. Furthermore, it is hoped that the knowledge gained about this reactor can someday be used for the manufacturing of chemicals that are cu
ently not possible or unprofitable.
