The chosen business idea is ‘KFC’s chicken will go antibiotic free at the end of 2018’.
1) Define the concepts and processes in marketing and why it is important to your chosen product, service, organisation or institution?
The selected business idea in context to KFC Chicken is a part of the growing trend taking place in the fast food industry and pursued by other fast food chains, such as Burger King and McDonald’s. According to USA today’s reports, fast food chains are moving away from this trend and strive for preparing chicken without using chicken. The societal marketing concept seems more appropriate and applicable to the chosen business idea. The societal marketing concept applies where organisation strive for giving back to the society through preparing products targeted towards society welfare. It acts as an appropriate philosophy in the age of environment deterioration, population growth, world’s poverty, and hunger (Rahim, 2017).
It is worth mentioning that business firms often face criticism on account of satisfying their own needs at society’s expense. In this context, KFC has decided to remove antibiotics from its boneless chicken and removing bone from the food. This step of the company proves a notable move in context to KFC as it is argued that antibiotics in chicken products likely to pose threat to consumers. There is risk of infection and serious illness to the consumers on eating bone based chicken. In lieu of adopting societal marketing concept, KFC’s has dedicated its efforts for removing antibiotics in chicken products. The president of KFC US argued that KFC’s is preparing chicken using antibiotics which is not good for consumer health and wellbeing. This is the time to alter its image and market positioning through offering consumers with boneless chicken and avoiding risk of infection and serious illness.
