The dynamics of a rolling aircraft is a complex phenomenon which arises due to the creation of asymmetric lift distribution in the wingspan. When the aileron deflects down it increases the wing camber and the coefficient of lift; this in turn raises the opposite aileron to reduce this camber and coefficient of lift. These deflections and resulting spanwise asymmetry results in the rolling moment. The angle formed between the flight path of aircraft and resultant flight path of the wingtips is known as the roll helix angle.
