Consider this scenario: A family has contacted you about the care of their grandfather, Juan, who has Alzheimer's disease. The nursing home staff report that Juan engages in frequent elopement from the nursing home facility when unattended, and verbal aggression that has caused disruptions to the other nursing home residents. A review of the files shows that the nursing home contracted with a BCaBA who did not conduct afunctional behavior assessmentbutadvisedsetting limits, being consistent with rules, and blocking Juan from engaging in problem behavior. The nursing home staff decided to incorporate these strategies byrestrictingJuan from accessing the courtyard or roaming the halls, leaving him to stay all day in his room with only accompanied walks to therapies and the dining hall. Juan's behaviors escalated and they have stated they will be ordering the use of chemical restraints to block occurrences of the problem behavior.

To the family of Juan, (It is okay to make up the names of the family members.)
Hello,
I want to show gratitude that you have opted this hospital for the care of your grandfather, Jaun severely suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. We are doing our best to manage the behavior of Jaun but the thing is Jaun is engaged in frequent elopement from the nursing home and involved in ve
al aggression that consequent disruption to the other residents of the home care. It is quite difficult to manage the Jaun’s behavior but we are trying our best to manage the implication involved in his behavior. It is our foremost responsibility to manage these implications according to first ethical code of conduct defined by BCaBA (Board Certified Behavior Analysis), therefore we have decided to block the Jaun’s behavior from engaging in problem that is including the Jaun’s restriction from accessing the courtyard roaming in the halls. The major benefit of this conduct is the safety of the other patients who are residing in the home care. The quality of care can be provided to the different patients by the use of this approach, despite having benefits there are some risks related to this code of conduct that the feeling of biasness would be there in the mind of co
esponding patient. Another risks related to cost of hiring an attendant or professional to manage the implications involved in the application of code of conduct. Specific training cost would be involved to hire the person who has the skills to manage or deal with the patients suffering from specific disease (Jönsson et al., 2024).
According to second ethical code of conduct, we are truthful to you by informing you the scenario that from now onward he will stay in his room all the day so that the inconvenience that is being faced by the other home residents can be avoided. It is the major responsibility of our staff to provide the better environment to the number of patients who are admitted in the home care. Jaun’s behavior is getting escalated day by day and we have decided to use the chemicals to block the occu
ences of the problem behavior that is issues of concern for the other patients who are the residents of the home care (Panghal & Flora, 2024). Being true to the family of the patient help to provide an overview of the mental conditions of the patient and transparency between the officials and family members can be build up by the use of this approach. Sometime it is quite hard to make them understand or accept the reality that their loved one is undergoing hardship. A condition of trauma and mental tension would be there after telling...
