Real Time Processing is a continuous processing and production of input and output 
respectively. Input data is processed immediately as it comes with immediate revision of 
database as the transaction is carried out. Real Time Processing is generally used in Time 
critical environments where data needs to be processed extremely fast because results are 
always to effect immediate decisions. Examples of environments in which real time 
processing is used are airport traffic control, space flights, bank ATM, POS terminal, 
assembly line robots, telephone switching, sophisticated medical equipments etc. Here 
response time is critical issue. These systems must provide response in fraction of seconds. 
On the other hand, Batch Processing is a processing of group of transactions that are collected 
over some period of time. These transactions are entered, processed and output is produced in 
batches. Database is updated later when there is sufficient data or when it is scheduled. Batch 
processing is considered to be the most primitive type of operating system. It takes the data, 
program and other system commands in the form of job.
