The specific contract that was discussed as part of the interview concerns the
maintenance service for a HVAC system at large scale remote data centre offering cloud storage
services. This data storage centre has a industrial s3cale HVAC systems for cooling requirements
at its premised. The HVAC system is under the control of the building utilities management
team. This building utilities management team has outsourced the services to HVAC Systems
Engineering consultants team by way of a maintenance contract. As per the contract terms, Mr.
X, Maintenance Manager – HVAC Systems Engineering Consultants has been appointed as the
in house engineer in control of the maintenance of the HVAC Systems.
The Figure 1 presents the block diagram of the contract links,

Parties – Communication
The overall communication is hierarchical in nature with chief operating officer of the
data centre service company having ultimate responsibility and ownership with respect to HVAC
utility systems. The manager of operations holds operational responsibilities and directly
communicates with the manager from consultant Company undertaking maintenance of HVAC
systems. In addition the senior consultant at the consultancy directly communicates with the
chief operating officer in case of escalations. All formal communication are either by way of
email, telephone or direct communications.
