Consumer Goods and Material Recall Process
Product recalls have increased in the past two decades as consumers are being aware of their rights and become conscious of their health. In US, a rise in the number of product recalls from 221 in 1988 to 367 in 1993 was observed. Recalls have a serious impact on the brand image and reputation and sometimes, it is even responsible for the closure of a brand or a company. In majority of the cases, companies do not even realise that their carelessness can have such serious repercussions that it can impact the brand image of the organization (Smith et al., 1996).
A recent example of recall is of Hormel Foods Corp. That was instructed by Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) department to recall its canned pork and chicken as they were found to be contaminated and hazardous to human health. Consumer complaints that metal particles are found in the canned boxes made the company recall 228,614 pounds of their product from the market (Paul, 2018).  
Consumer goods and material recall has a process defined by Food and Drug administration in US. Similar process was followed by Hormel Foods Corp. to initiate and terminate their recall. It generally involves the following steps:
