Abstract
The report provides readers an overview of environmental issues that have arisen due to logistics in organizations. The rigorous economic growth has lead to increase in supply of goods from one place to another which has given rise to logistic activities to great extent. Considering the importance of it and finding its place in one of the most important activities in business process, it is important that these activities are done by keeping the environment healthy. For many years, these process were conducted without considering the impact on environment for which huge cost has to be borne by future generations. The report will take the reader through various aspects of logistics and how efforts can be made to make the process environment friendly. This is done by understanding the impact on environment throughout the supply chain. The findings part provides recommendations on steps that can be taken by logistics managers or organizations in order to create a sustainable scenario for them. At last the report is concluded by providing a summary to research and how these changes can help us to prosper in coming time ahead.
Introduction
The rise in new technologies and growth in international trade opportunities has lead to tremendous economic growth across the world but this has also resulted in serious environmental issues due to incessant industrial activities. The concerns related to environment has grown amongst various organization and activists who are actively taking part to respond to these issues. From business perspective, there has been increase in demand of green products and various norms have been put by government to promote environmentally responsible business activity. The logistics which is an integral part of any business also leads to causing various types of environmental issues which are discussed in this report.
With the increase in transportation of business goods the environmental problems have been on a rise in the last decade. The increasing competition has forced organizations to achieve operational efficiency keep the cost low and less lead times. In this race, the environmental issues are generally not taken care. If the environmental aspects are not taken care in appropriate time period, the risk and cost to mitigate the damage will only increase over time which can be a bigger burden for companies. The managers are often facing challenges to address the environmental management principles in the decisions which are made on daily basis. (Sathaye, Horvath & Madanat,2006)
This report will take a review on the issues that might be caused by logistics on environment and provide findings on how measures can be taken to mitigate it.

The rise in pollutants due to logistics has alarmed organizations which has motivated them to pursue research in this direction. The need has been identified to develop an understanding about the pollutants and the consequences by their emission in the environment. Frameworks have been developed that enables the study of transportation and environment which covers the impacts of logistic systems. The motto of sustainable development which has been followed by many organizations deals with 3 aspect (economic development, environmental preservation and social development) out which environmental preservation also takes care green logistic practices to save environment.
There are various type of activities that are ca
ied out by logistics companies which include warehousing, transportation of goods, managing inventory and other processing for customers. To inhibit the climate change logistics has been the most sought industry where efforts are being made at global level. (Aronsson & Huge Brodin, 2006) Managers and academics both have been discussing the environmental issues related to logistic sector because this area has big potential to contribute towards environmental performance of organizations. Those who are following the environmental norms are also producing reports and forecast to measure and highlight the importance of this domain. Green initiatives taken by the companies is a measure to mitigate the environmental problems that might be caused by the logistic industry. Companies which have executives taking care of green initiatives and have a proactive approach are becoming leaders in their business due to gained competitive advantage. Following methodologies that promote green supply chain is a step towards optimization in itself. Best results can be obtained only committing towards the goal for a longer period.
