Reverse logistics has gained significant attention throughout these years, especially in the developing countries. Logistics is the process of flow of materials in a cost effective manner from origin to the point of consumption. Reverse logistics is concerned with the operations involved in the flow of reuse of the products.
The adoption of reverse logistics by developing countries is the result of advent of e-waste, implementation of environmental legislation and the social responsibility assumed due to the consumer pressure in the country (Janse et al., 2010). Other factors include increased competitive pressure, technological advancements, short product life cycles and increasing trend of reuse and recycling of products. Various authorities in different countries prescribe their own reverse logistics models. Adoption of e-waste is progressing. Developing economies like India, China, Brazil and Vietnam have adopted models of reverse logistics suitable to their local settings.
