You are having issues with the suppliers of the selected countertops for the Café being able to confirm their delivery time…
a) What do you do?
In most of the cases it is observed that the suppliers of goods and services are unable to deliver on time. This results in delays and high costs from the company’s point of view. Hence, it is essential that the vendors must deliver the ordered goods within the stipulated deadline.
Hence, from the café’s point of view they must deal appropriately with the vendors for delivering goods and services within the deadline. To make this happen it is necessary to ensure the below things:
1. It must be ensured that the expectations of the café with respect to the products and services are communicated well to the suppliers. Communication can be defined as a process of sharing formal as well as informal information in a timely manner between the firm and the supplier.
2. It might happen that the café manager or supervisors were unable to communicate some important information due to which the café customers suffer heavily. Hence, it is essential that there must be alternate suppliers to maintain consistency in the supply chain process and delivery goods on time. Information is gathered from both inside as well as outside the organization and are being processed for the purpose of communication to all the levels within the organization.
3. Thirdly, it is essential to identify the root cause due to which the suppliers failed to deliver goods and services to the café on time. It may be due to poor manufacturing process or employee strike in the suppliers’ end. It is extremely difficult for the owner or the project manager to find the root cause of the issue as there was a poor communication between the project manager and the subcontractor while edification of the café.
4. If this is a manufacturing problem, then the café manager must discuss with the supplier for identifying a subsidiary product which can be delivered within the deadline. Further, edifying a subsidiary product requires time and costs. This will result in an increment in the costs of the company which needs to be incu
ed from the reserve funds kept with the café.
5. Finally, there is necessity for the café to follow-up with the vendors for ensuring that the company is adhering to the prescribed deadline. It is essential for the project manager of the company to build a cordial relationship with the vendor or suppliers of the company for maintaining the consistency in the supply chain. This will ensure availability of products whenever requested by the customers.
) How do you avoid this impacting the project timeline?
If the goods are not delivered within the scheduled deadline, then there is possibility of the project being impacted negatively. Any delays in the project by the vendors can result in high incremental costs. The only way to avoid such unforeseen events is by ensuring that the café is able to communicate effectively with the vendors of goods. Further, there can be an alternative product made as a second option. This will enable the café to get the goods on time if the original suppliers fail to meet the deadline.
On the contrary, we must reconsider the original suppliers and share the information with respect to the goals which needs to be set as per SMART directives. There can be a meeting held with the suppliers in order to discuss on dealing with the issues and alternative options for avoiding the delay with respect to the project. As per the SMART goals its is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. Therefore, it is necessary for the café to outline and set the goals and objectives according to SMART directives.
