Task Summary

The assessment task requires you to reflect on your experiences in the subject MIS302: Agile Business Analysis. As the trimester ends, you will be asked to reflect on your learning experiences based on your performance in Assessment 1 & 2 and submit a final reflective report of 1500 words (+/- 10%) that will use a Fishbone diagram to undertake an analysis of your learning journey to uncover opportunities where you could have improved upon the attainment of your goals. The aim of a Fishbone diagram is to do deep analysis that does not just skim the surface but gives a deep view of challenges and their root cause.

Context

This individual assessment complements your learning from class and the understanding you gain from working through the learning materials. This reflective report gives you the opportunity to communicate your understanding of how Agile Business Analysis relates to your career and future using a specific business analysis tool that is used in Agile retrospectives - a Fishbone diagram.

Task Instructions

  1. Take a large piece of paper anddraw a fishbone diagram (see below).

  2. Write a problem statement at the head of the fish that is specific to your circumstances e.g.“I

did not achieve the grade that I has set for myself as my personal goal”, “I could not spendenough time on my studies to do as well as I wanted to.”, “I was satisfied with mygrade, but I felta bit stressed and under pressure”.You are advised to personalise your problem statement to a problems that you experienced.

  3. The aim is now to explore branches of the fishbone to do a deeply considered root cause analysis of your problem.Recommended branches include the 5 W’s- What, Where, Who, Why, When - however you may choose bones of your choice like: skills, systems, people, place, policies, methods, materials and/or technology. Bear in mind that your word count limits how many branches you can fully explore so it is recommended that you have no more than 5 branches. You need to focus on areas that were within your control for this to be a meaningful exercise for positive change / kaizen.

  4. Now either take pencil or sticky notes and jot down the problems you may have faced in each branch or bone that help you back from achieve what you wanted to achieve. Asking yourself“Why did the [branch name] affect or cause my problem?”

  5. Once you have completed this activity look for:

    1. Are there any connections and links between items?

    2. Can you identify any patterns?

    3. How did these connections, links and patterns contribute to the outcome you achieved?

    4. What will you do differently in your next subject?

  6. Now you can start to write your report

Report Structure

You are required to complete this assessment in a report format using the following headings:

  1. Introduction(~150 words)

  2. Body of your report:

VERY IMPORTANT - you need to make specific reference to the subject areas that you covered this trimester, nd in assessment 1 and 2.

    1. Problem Statement - what is your problem statement and how did you decide that this is the problem that you wanted to explore

    2. Branches -did you choose to stick with the 5 w’s or add other branches? Why didyou choose the path that you did?

    3. Look at your analysis and select 5 of the biggest issues that causes your problems. Describe these well and make them clear.

    4. Define each of these issues and describe why each of these issues is happening.

    5. No reflection would be complete without developing an understanding of what would be required for positive change or kaizen - address each issue with three

direct actions that you can take to ensure that the issue is either removed,

mitigated, or has a counter measure.

  3. Conclusion(~150 words)

  4. References -it is expected that you use or describe Agile concepts in your reflection, these

    will require a reference.

  5. Appendices -You are required to attach a visual representation of your fishbone diagram -

whether a picture/photo of the work you completed on paper, or an electronic diagram created using a digital tool of your choice.

Introduction
By the virtue of this assignment, I have performed extensive analysis on the course Agile Business Analysis and reflected on my learnings from the subject. In the golden words of John Dewey, “We don’t learn from experiences alone rather we learn from reflecting on the experience”. Indeed, I feel this course was insightful and extremely relevant in this market dynamics. Furthermore, I have also reflected on my learnings and performance from Assessment 1 and 2. Primarily, in this report I will share my learnings and key takeaways form the agile business analysis that includes agile artifacts and essential frameworks like Fishbone Diagram. Especially, while working on Assessments, I worked on developing user persona, generating maps and building user stories. Furthermore, in this report, I will introspect on what were my problem areas, who I
anched them and what were the aspects that were my strengths. Towards the end I will share my recommendations that can help overcome the issues and enhance the overall output. I strongly believe that this course has enhance my understanding about business, comprehending the agile concepts at greater length and developing critical reasoning skills (Dean, J. W., & Bowen, D. E., 1994).
Problem Statement
We are living one the most dynamic era of the century where disruptions are taking place at much faster pace. Agile business analysis is the overall practice to implement framework and mindset that can foster flexibility, innovation and creativity (Bruns, A. and Garding, S., 2015). The core problem statement takes into consideration that the majority of practical cases, analysis on business is very difficult to be implemented alone since it is not only science, which is involved rather there are heuristic aspects, perhaps very important for the success. Therefore, the core business problem is that there is no 'one size fits all' situation and needs to be curated as per the business requirement (Dean, J. W., & Bowen, D. E., 1994).
When I reflect back on agile business analysis and what could have gone better is how to enhance the creativity while solving complex real-life problems. It is evident from both the assessments that completion of one activity is used as a base to start another activity. From agile business analysis I have learnt that we need to prioritize on certain activities and initiate the work instead of waiting for single activity to complete (Eid, R., 2013). This can only happen if we allow ourselves to learn, unlearn and relearn enabling us to become more creative.
