Directions: You have three options for completing the service learning portion of your First-
Yea
Second-Year Seminar course. All submitted work will be 3-5 pages, properly formatted
(12-pt font, Times New Roman, 8.5 x 11 margins).
Option 1:
Continue performing service at your cu
ent organization and write a reflection.
a. Follow the prompts to write the original Service Learning Interview and Reflection
Paper #2.
OR
. Follow the prompts to write the alternative Service Learning Reflection Paper (see
elow).
Option 2:
Perform service at a different community organization and write a reflection.
a. Obtain approval from your instructor before doing your service hours at the new
location.
. Follow the prompts to write the original Service Learning Interview and Reflection
Paper #2.
OR
c. Follow the prompts to write the alternative Service Learning Reflection Paper (see
elow).
Option 3:
Analyze a research article instead of performing service at a community organization and write a
eflection.
a. Choose a research article from the list provided. Respond to the each of the following
questions, making sure to address every part of each question.
i. (Research problem) What did researchers want to find out? Why did they want
to find this out?
ii. (Methods) How did they collect data? What kind of test or measurement was
used? If no test or measurement was used, how did they conduct their study?
iii. (Findings) What did they learn?
iv. (Discussion) What are the implications of the findings? Why does it matter?
v. (Your thoughts) What did you think about the article? Why? Please explain

Alternative Service Learning Reflection Paper
The purpose of this reflection paper is to (1) support your learning about organizational and social
change during times of crisis and (2) aid your reflection on this learning and your experience.
Instructions: Please turn in a 3-5 page paper answering the following questions:
Organization Questions:
1. How is you organization/community service site responding to cu
ent events? How do you
think they should respond? Please explain.
2. Investigate cu
ent events as they relate to your social issue. Based on your research findings,
how do you think the cu
ent state of affairs will impact the social issue your organization is
trying to address? Please explain.
3. Investigate how cu
ent events are impacting the population your organization is serving.
Based on your research findings, how do you think they will be affected by the cu
ent state
of affairs? For example, what are the short-term implications of altering or limiting access to
social services? What might be some long-term implications? Please explain.
Guided Reflection:
1. Self-care is paramount. What are you doing to take care of yourself—physically, mentally,
emotionally—during this time? What do you plan to do for self-care? Please explain.
2. What are you doing to serve your immediate community (family, neighbors, et al.)?
