King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals Electrical Engineering Department DESIGN PROJECT Semester XXXXXXXXXX) th This project is posted on WebCT on 28/04/2013 and it is due on 14 May 2013 Industrial plant consists of 4-motors and transformer. Two induction motors and two synchronous motors are installed with the following data: The slip range of induction motors is between: s = XXXXXXXXXX The induction motor at rated load power factor is between PF = XXXXXXXXXXlagging. The induction motor rated sizes are available of 100, 150, 200, & 250 hp. The efficiency of the induction motors is between 80%-90% The synchronous motor rated sizes are available of 100, 150, 200, &250 kW. The synchronous motor at rated load power factor is between PF = 0.80 lagging-0.80 leading. The efficiency of the synchronous motors is between 85%-92% The motor poles are available of 2 or 4. The voltage source is V = 480V, 60Hz. LL The total load torque of the plant is 2900 N.m. The total power factor, PF, at the secondary side of the transformer is 1 = PF = 0.95 lagging. 1. Design the motor specification such as size, pole numbers, slip, efficiency, and PF based on the data available above. (note: Motors from each type cannot be the same rating) 2. Select proper transformer which can handle the total load taking to consideration 70% of load factor plus losses. 3. Show all your calculations in detail (power in all forms, currents, speeds, voltages, etc) 4. Typing report should be submitted.
