Abstract The purpose of this term paper is to explain how plasma gasification processes operations occur at solid waste landfills. A HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_torch" \o "Plasma torch" plasma torch powered by an HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_arc" \o "Electric arc" electric arc is used to ionize gas and catalyze organic matter into HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_gas" \o "Synthetic gas" synthetic gas and solid waste. It is used commercially as a form of HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waste_treatment" \o "Waste treatment" waste treatment; however, it has been also tested for the gasification of HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biomass" \o "Biomass" biomass and solid HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrocarbons" \o "Hydrocarbons" hydrocarbons, such as HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal" \o "Coal" coal, HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_sands" \o "Oil sands" oil sands, and HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_shale" \o "Oil shale" oil shale.
