Introduction
A driverless car, a self driven car, is an initiative taken by the bold scientist of the world to put
into market whose main purpose is to provide safety and comfort to the generation of human
eing. It has the capability of in the road by themselves without the support of any human being
.A very advance method has been researched and put into the system of car to make it sustainable
to move in the road without the aid of any human support. Technologies like Global Positioning
System, Radio detection and ranging, Light detection and ranging and highly ranged lasers to
study its environment and then act according to the data retrieved based upon the programming it
has been fed with. Many companies are working day-night and have come up with a fully tested
successful engine which could work without the help of human being.

The idea of driverless car came into the mind when the Futuruma Exhibition which was hosted
y General Motors had tried that cars be controlled by pre-embedded electronic circuits(without
human being) in the highways. Then again a group of people along with Ernst Dickmanns who
collaborate with Mercedes-Benz to built automated cars that averaged up to a speed of 100kmph.
The cars which have been
ought in the exhibition used technologies like saccadic vision,
kalman filters and parallel computing. Seeing such significant contributions in the field, the
European Union funded 800 million Euros to EC Eureka Prometheus project for autonomous
vehicles (1987-1995). The autonomous cars got a major boost with the passing of ISTEA Bill in
1991 which mandated to come up with an ‘automated vehicle and highway system’ by 1997,
which led to the establishment of National Automated Highway Aystem Consortium. Further, in
1994, vehicles ‘VAMP’ and ‘VITA-2’ were tested on a Paris 3-lane highway and drove up to 130
kmph with little control by humans.
