The author identifies the fact that tourism industry is the biggest source of income in Sri Lanka. She presents many problems imposed by the tourism industry in social cultural and environmental dimensions of the country and suggests measures to control them. The poor people experience low daily wages, and minimum job security in their work which takes longer working hours. Tourists arrival is also affected by the incidents of scandals, political unrest, protests and terrorism in Sri Lanka. The terrorist incidents downgrade the brand image of country and reduce the tourists’ frequency. Tourism also harms the natural environment. The air traffic and transport increases the emission of harmful gases in the environment thus polluting it and causing global warming. Moreover, the leisure parks , swimming pools and large number of hotels consume huge amount of water and electricity producing  lot of garbage every day. Hence large quantities of waste produced by the tourism industry pollute the environment considerably.
