For projects larger than 10MW, the Independent Electricity System Operators (IESO) is required to conduct a System Influence Assessment (SIA) to evaluate the connection initiative's impact on the reliability of the integrated power system.
Information system applications are capable of doing component level impact assessments. There are no Process Control systems covered by this paper; it only relates to Information Systems.
System impact analyses are carried out in conjunction with the connection application and with feedback from the impacted transmitters (Bennett, n.d.). From the time the IESO receives System impact assessment application, related documentation, and deposit, the procedure could take up to 150 days.
