1. Abstract
The cu
ent clinical practice project (CPP) is about improving quality of care and nursing practices for avoiding the occu
ence of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) amongst patients in hospitals. For that purpose, the Registered Nurses (RNs) are suggested with a number of improvising techniques, along with the support of American Nurses Association (ANA).
2. Introduction
CAUTI is a very common issue that RNs have to deal with, when they are caring for hospitalized patients, especially those with mobilization problem. Use of obsolete and inaccurate method of catheterization, along with lack of knowledge on the nurses’ end lead to infections that might be detrimental for the patients (Flores-Mireles, Walker, Caparon & Hultgren, 2015).
3. Problem Statement
The key problem has been identified to be the inappropriate use of catheter for both immobile and mobile patients. As mentioned by Lo et al. (2014), in case of patients with mobility issues, sacral wounds or post-surgery, require indwelling catheters, while those, who are healthy, should not be subjected to indwelling catheters. However, as argued by Meddings et al. (2014), since the RNs are using such catheters with healthy patients as well, 5% of them are acquiring nosocomial infections of CAUTI.
4. Supportive Organization
The ANA is working towards this process of providing support to the nurses in training them and providing them with the information about the proper way of catheterization, which has helped to reduce the infection rate largely (Muto, Tatar, Que
y & Ciccone, 2016). They have collaborated with the Partnership for Patients (PfP) and Centers for Medicaid Medicare Services (CMS) for attempting towards eliminating at least...
