You select an employee to whom to assign the report, and you provide the essentials of the report's preparation in brief form. You pick an employee you believe capable of doing a decent job and who seems to have sufficient time available, and with no discussion beyond the basics of "here's what I want you to do," you make the assignment. The chosen person says nothing to you about the new assignment. A few days after assigning the task you discover that data collection report has not yet been started. You remind the employee, which gets you a simple nod of acknowledgment and no comment. Shortly thereafter you overhear part of a conversation in which the employee who is supposedly doing the report says to another employee, “the boss's lousy statistics. They’re not mine, so why should I do it? Whose job is it, anyway?"

The inability to delegate the work to the employees properly is one of the main reasons
for the failure of the executives. Here in this case, the manager just conveys the work and
the way to do it to the respective employee without looking for his comments,
explanations and feedback. The consent of the employee has never been taken. Even
while understanding the progress of the report, the employee gave no response and that
situation was not handled properly.
2. Use the basic delegation process to explain how the supervisor could have delegated this
eport to be more successful.
There are many ways to delegate the work properly to the employees:
 Perfection is not guaranteed: A manager should never look for perfection. He
is delegating the work and wants it to be completed with the required quality.
Perfection is nearly impossible. Manager needs to set a benchmark for the
quality and communicate to the respective employee.
