The role of government is inevitable in resource allocation and effective management of 
overall market scenario. In health care financing, though the role of government varies with 
the type of model followed but none of the models can be implemented without any 
government interference (Murray & Frenk, 2000). Government facilitate in proper revenue 
collection; for instance, in public funding model, government collect the revenue in the form 
of taxation and the proper allocation is being done. Effective monitoring and evaluation of 
several functions such as design, implementation, and ethical management, corruption 
eradication from health system and regulation and consumer protection is conducted by the 
government.  
Different researches have shown that unnecessary increase in competition in health sector 
might cause reduction in the quality of health services provided; this can be controlled with 
governmental intervention in the process (Mukamel, et al., 2002). It also facilitate in 
removing unnecessary overhead expenditures associated with private insurance system; 
beside this, government can use its power to stabilize the pricing policy of health services.
