You each must role-play one of the case studies whilst the other partner will be the healthcare professional. Your script must be of you being the healthcare professional and your partner being the client. You will need to use Motivational Interviewing techniques and therapeutic communication skills to understand and address your client’s feelings, concerns and negative health behaviours. You will need to show how you will assist your client to move to more positive health behaviours. So, prior to making the script think about and prepare – What are the issues? How might they feel? What are the troublesome aspects of your client’s situation? How can you assist them to explore and create better health outcomes into the future? Your script must be around in 1200 words.
Case study:Your name is Tessa and you are a 29-year-old female single parent of three children under the age of eight (8) years old. You work 4 days a week at a local supermarket. By the time you pick up your children from school and child care you are too tired to cook, so your meals are invariably take away meals and you use the left overs the next day for lunches. Your eldest child has brought a note from their teacher asking to meet with you. At the meeting the teacher indicates that you need to be providing more nutritious meals for your child. You know the teacher has a valid point, but you feel like you are being made out to be a bad parent and you have no idea how to go about making this change to your children’s diets and making the teacher happier.

Tessa: Okay, so, I am a working lady and a single parent. I am 29 years old and all three of my children are under 8 years old. I work four days a week at the local supermarket. So, most of the days, after finishing my work at the supermarket and then picking up my children from the day care, I don’t have the energy left in me anymore to cook for four people. So, what I do most of the times is that, I order food or eat take away meals. We generally use the leftovers the next day for lunch. My eldest child, a couple of days back brought me a note that said that the teacher wanted to meet me. I went to meet the teacher the very next day. In the meeting the teacher asked me to provide my child with meals that are more nutritious. 
Salena: I understand that you are having a hard time managing everything all by yourself. I can not imagine how hard it will be for a woman to maintain her job along with three little kids. You are so strong and brave Tessa. Now, please tell me how the meeting with the teacher makes you feel like?
