    • Anatomy and physiology
    • Pathophysiology
    • Diagnostics
    • Pharmokinetics
    • Pharmodynamics, the quality use of medicines

This assignment focuses on pathophysiology and pharmacology and will be marked by teaching staff from science.

Question

Discuss the pathophysiology and pharmacology of Heart Failure in relation to the case study of Trevor. As part of your answer you need to define and detail the pathophysiology of Heart Failure.

The case study of Trevor on Moodle follows Trevor as he encounters various cardiac issues. The focus here is on the heart failure which he experiences, you do not need to discuss any of his other health issues. Ensure that you relate Trevor's symptoms and presentation to what would be expected according to the pathophysiology.

Briefly outline the pharmacological treatments that Trevor is prescribed to treat this condition, and why he has been prescribed these medications. Ensure that you discuss the pharmacodynamics of the medications ie. the effects of the medications and their mechanism of action.

Referencing

You need to reference your responses appropriately.Aminimumof 6 recent evidence-based and peer reviewed resources is required for this section of the assignment.APA is the required referencing style for assignments submitted in the School of Health. Follow the link on moodle for information and examples.

Structure and presentation

Use the short answer format for this assignment. It still needs to be in an essay layout; however, there isno need for an introduction or conclusion.Make sure that you clearlydifferentiate between the pathophysiology and pharmacology sections, and share your word count between them appropriately.

Marking criteria

Download the marking criteria and use this to guide you in preparing and structuring your assignment.DO NOTattach it to your assignment submission as there is an electronic version in turn it in for us to use and it will increase your turn it in score if you do attach.

Introduction
Hypertension can be refe
ed to as the condition, in which the levels of blood pressure is increasingly high. It can lead to several other health issues, especially those concerning cardiac diseases; hence, it should be controlled strictly under normal limits of 120/80mm of Hg column (Sun, 2015). The cu
ent essay presents the situations of Katrina and Trevor, who are suffering from cardiac diseases, for which hypertension has been assessed to create their education plans.
1. Prevalence or Incidence and Main Causes of Hypertension in Australia
The prevalence or occu
ence of hypertension happens to be one of the highest concerns in Australia. The Heart Foundation of Australia (2018) indicate that 68% of Australian population are having blood pressure higher than 140/90 mm of Hg level, whereas the normal value should be 120 mm of systolic pressure and 80 mm of diastolic pressure. Any individual having blood pressure above this level is considered to be suffering from hypertension and in Australia, there are more 6 million adult individuals, who are under this category. However, as argued by Ga
et al. (2016), the key reason for this statistics is their lack of awareness and lifestyle choices amongst the Australian people, who have different beliefs or ideas about managing their health.
As in case of Katrina, it could be seen that her mother has hypertension and her father has diabetes. Nevertheless, they were not educated enough to understand that their health conditions can affect their children as well. Moreover, as supported by Evans et al. (2016), lack of awareness or proper knowledge about medication is a serious area of concern, which should be addressed immediately with the help of education that can even save someone’s life. Therefore, lack of education about health and health issues is another major reason behind the prevalence or causation of hypertension in Australia.
This can be proven with the data existing for the Australian indigenous community for hypertension, which is considerably higher than that in the non-indigenous community. According to Jennings (2016), a major reason for this can be their social and economic disparities, which do not allow them to live a better standard of life. Hence, it can be seen that the incidence of hypertension amongst the people with less than $55000 as annual household income have higher rate of incidence (39.2%), while people with more than $120000 as annual household income have lower rate of incidence (27.4%) (Heart Foundation, 2018).
2. Grading System, Primary Management, Modifiable and Non-Modifiable Characteristics of Hypertension
The grading system of hypertension is a form of categorising the patients under their extent of suffering from the condition that can be either or not modified. As mentioned by Shafi et al. (2016), it is based on the diastolic and systolic pressure, with which the blood flows through the blood vessels. Hence, 120mm is the normal systolic pressure and 80mm is the normal diastolic pressure using Hg column, above which the individual is termed to be hypertensive.
According to Moreno-Vinasco et al. (2017),...
