The main themes of Sophocles version are as follows:
The power of unrecorded decree: It refers to the defeat of Polynice and taking over the throne of Thebes, the armies who dies where left to rot unburied. Further, their flesh was left to be eaten by wild dogs and the vultures (Antigone, 231). Creon thought that he did the right thing after defeating and dethroning Polynice.
