Assignment answers:
The limits of the market in the provision of health services is dependent on various factors ranging from the policies, budget allocation, employment opportunities in the sector and tax regime in health services. In the case of free market healthcare system, the prices of healthcare goods and services are set by the agreements between the patient parties and the care providers based on the demand and supply regulations. These are also free from government regulations. But if there is any sort of monopoly in the case of the pricing of healthcare services and goods than the government steps in to limit the same and ensure that the customers’ are not being made to pay more.
The budgets allocated for health care is also a limitation as it is one of the most critical aspects for any government and should be in line with the economic theories. The unequal distribution of income is also a limit of the market for the provision of health services allocation so the market is inadequate in extending the services to all sections of the people. In these situation the government intervenes and so we have seen the Obamacare act coming into existence to extend affordable healthcare to the maximum section of the people in the country.( Robert Kuttner,2001)
The healthcare system is fragmented with a misalignment of incentives and lack of proper coordination which results in inefficient resource allocation. The fragmentation in the healthcare services in the country is caused by the federalist system which has led to a mismatch in the provision of healthcare. This shows that a strong federalist regulatory mechanism does not ensure that the healthcare services will be more efficient and effective as there are more chances to impose hindrances in the types of care delivery innovations which would guide us to move ahead to attain higher value care.
That is the reason we should reduce or eliminate the fragmentation in healthcare so that quality services and care can be given to all the people...
