Rainbow Round My Shoulder
The dance performed on Rainbow Round My Shoulder is choreographed by black American named Donald McKyle. In the beginning of the dance it can be seen that seven men dance in a chain. The male dancers are dressed in brown and torn trousers and it can be assumed that they are prison inmates. The dancers do not wear anything on the top and neither wear any shoes which helps to audience to see the stress in the muscle while they are dancing. The choreography opens with strong movements of the male dancers and sldestep touches. There is sharp movement in the waist and head, whereas the chest area contracting descending to the fourth stroke, and highlight of the instruments. The male dancers enters the stage holding hands which gives the audience an illusion that they are chained together. The body weight of the dancers is shifting to and fro and falling on the stage. This movement shows the hardships and the problems that the prisoners face (Youtube, 2014).
