Impact of Substance Abuse on the community
Introduction
In this paper we will discuss on various types of substance abuses and how it impacts the people of Australia who are addicted to consumption of alcohol, tobacco products and drugs. Due to this thousands of Australians are a victim of substance abuse as they are addicted to various substances which are harmful for health. Therefore, it’s the substance abuse which is the most important issue globally and has emitted social damage in the human community (Poor RA. Tehran: Salaman; 2004). Further, substance abuse is a meaningless usage of drugs which causes extreme damages and serious consequences in the form of mental imbalances, as well behavioral and various psychological issues (Madadi A, Nogani F. Tehran: Jameanegar; 2004). In Australia, addiction of substances like drugs, alcohol and tobacco products are one of the greatest problems which are faced by thousands of Australians as well as their families. Further majority of the substance abuse issues are left untreated. There are rehabilitation options available in Australia which is a step towards the recovery. In Australia, there are more than 6000 people who dies only due to alcohol related diseases. This means there is 1 person every 90 minutes who dies due to substance abuse. Therefore, due to the legality of alcohol the hazardous issues of the substances are ignored. Therefore, the consumption of alcohol can be just as perilous as intake of illicit drugs. It is due to widespread drinking culture and the popularization of binge drinking made alcohol not just legally and culturally recognized but popular as well. In Australia its ecstasy, hallucinogens and amphetamines drugs which are consumed after marijuana mostly by the youths. Thus, the number of youths who are suffering from substance abuse in Australia are well over 4000000. Most people do not visualize the ill effects of substance abuse rather they believe that addiction is something which can be circumvented. Therefore, addiction is a biological response which impacts our body which means the body will desire for more drugs with only one usage of drug (David Hampton, 2019).
