INDIGENOUS PEOPLE IN AUSTRALIA
Indigenous people means, in general terms are referred as the aboriginal people who have originated or have been naturally occurring in an area or region. Indigenous people in Australia includes the Aboriginals and Torres of Strait. Aboriginals are those who have settled prior to Britain colonization. While the Torres of Strait are the considered to be the descents from Torres Strait Island, which is a part of the today’s Queensland.
Australian indigenous people known to be lived almost since 70,000 years. It is considered that more than 700 languages are spoken by those indigenous populations. It is said that still speak in different languages. The Indigenous population comprise 30% of complete Australian population. There is a great myth or superstition among the non-indigenous population of Australia that the indigenous people are those who look differently or have a dark skin, or those having disabilities or those who are dysfunctional, but it is a fact that the indigenous people too are humans like all others but their appearance, their background is what discriminates them from normal population. 
The government of Australia have some criteria based on which they discriminate the indigenous population and isolate them from general public. The criteria include, whether the person is of Aboriginal or Torres of strait descent or whether the person is identified as the Torres of strait or Aboriginal islander or whether the person is accepted by the indigenous community where he or she resides.
There is noted variation in the indigenous population with those of the non-indigenous population. Almost 60% of the indigenous communities suffer from malnutrition. The research show that many of the people of the indigenous community report to suffer cardiovascular diseases, nervous disorders, mal nutrition, depression, kidney and liver disorders and lot of mental disorders. The disorders are mainly due to their poor facilities and unavailability of healthy food and unhygienic living conditions and poor sanitation. The mental disorders are reported due to the ‘Intergenerational trauma’.
