Introduction 
In the article, the discussion has been done over fall in the supply of an important resource, that 
is. Gas powered electricity generation in Australian states named as New South Wales, South 
Australia and Victoria. It would have negative impact over the electricity sector because of lack 
of availability of gas to be used in harnessing electricity. As a result, there will be major shortfall 
in the electricity supply by about 80- 363 GWh in the coming years 2018 to 2021. It would 
severely affect the business activities and production procedures in the country as electricity 
plays an important role of resource to be used for working machineries and equipment. As a 
result, there will be fall down in the reliability scale of the electricity generation board which 
needs to maintain a minimum standard to meet the demand of both commercial as well as 
residential needs of electricity (AEMO 2017).
Use of economic concepts and theories 
Shortfall in supply of gas used to produce electricity would lead to backward shift of the supply 
curve in the electricity market. This is because there has been change in the supply of electricity 
mainly due to other factors affecting it. At present, there are no changes in demand of electricity 
may be because of no change in the prices of the electricity as maintained by the minimum 
standards of electricity board. 
There are various alternatives available to fulfill the supply of GPG gas for all the required 
sectors such as residential, industrial as well as commercial in the given states of Australia. It 
will make use of providing electricity to the city from other sources at higher prices; as a result 
there will be less shortfall of electricity leading to fall in shortfall by only 10 petajoules in a year.
