Word count: There is a word limit of 1500 words (Part A 500 words Poster and Part B 1000 words). Use your computer to total the number of words used in your assignment. However, do not include the reference list at the end of your assignment in the word count. In-text citations will be included in the additional 10%-word count. If you exceed the word limit by more than 10% the marker will stop marking at 1500 words (Part A-500 words and Part B-1000 words) plus 10%.

Topic area 1:Medication safety is an integral part of nursing and midwifery practice. Medicines are associated with a higher incidence of errors and adverse events than other healthcare interventions. In the interest of patient safety, measures must be undertaken to improve the safety and quality of medication administration.

Topic area 2:A healthcare-associated infection (HAI), is an infection that is acquired in a hospital or other health care facility. Healthcare-associated infections are one of the most common complications affecting patients in healthcare facilities. Consequences of HAIs include; prolonged hospital stays and increased cost of patient care, as well as unnecessary pain and suffering for patients and in some cases death.

Is the rate of medication safety being higher when nurses provide care to the one patient at a time compared to care provided to more than three patients at a time in a hospital setting? 
 	As suggested by Asensi-Vicente, Jiménez-Ruiz, and Vizcaya-Moreno (2018), medication errors are very frequent in the healthcare industry. Reducing the rate of medication safety in nursing practice has become pressing concern. This is because lack of medication safety can be fatal to the patients. It has been noted that rate of medication errors occur is around 42% in the nursing practice. Although, minor cases of medication errors failed to get registered with the management but major cases of medication errors, which result in death of the patient get registered and cost the job of the nurse.
As suggested by Kosari (2018), the most common type of medication errors which occur in nursing practice include delaying of medicine, administering of the medicine in wrong form, overdose of the medicine, prescription of the wrong medicine, and mixing of two medicines which have react with each other. Despite of occurrence of the medication standards, which nurses need to practice, yet medication safety is very poor. This occur due to negligence of the nurses due to heavy rush hours, shortage of staff, nursing burnout, and large number of patients treated at once. It must be noted that medication safety is an indicator of quality of care given to the patients
