In 1840, during the colonial rule of the British over the Manukau Harbour regions of New Zealand, the Treaty of Waitangi or Tiriti of Waitangi was signed between the British and the local Maori Tribe chiefs. The Tiriti of Waitangi, as observed by Came, Cornes and McCreanor (2018), promised sovereignty of the locals over their lands and the wellbeing of the indigenous people by the British in terms of upgrading the standards of living, by refined healthcare, education and facility providing. The treaty however, failed as the British captured the local lands they promised sovereignty and turned them into colonies, disrupting the indigenous culture of the Maori Tribe in New Zealand.
