Defining the Concept of Epidemiology
	Epidemiology, from a broader perspective, can be defined as the branch of medical science that involves the study of the pattern, in which diseases occur, their causes, distribution of occurrence and the most suitable ways to prevent them from occurring. As stated by Berkman, Kawachi and Glymour (2014), it deals with the analysis of the reasons or factors that affect health in such a way that leads to the healthy population acquiring the specific disease. 
It is a section of the public health because this study is aimed towards understanding the prevalence of epidemic, which imparts it the name. However, if epidemiology is specifically defined, then as informed by Von Elm et al. (2014), it is considered as a conceptual method of identifying the root causes behind the various public health outcomes that occur not to an individual, singularly, but to the entire population of a given area, at that particular time.
